Finding Simplicity in Christmas

1pipertreeChristmas was different this year.

It was a Christmas of simplicity.

Simple meant homemade goodies were made for family and friends in place of expensive store-bought gifts. Gifts the children were able to help make.

Homemade gingerbread cookies and Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies in little glass containers. Hot Cocoa mixes and homemade bath salts. A simple candle to enjoy with the bath salts. And bottles of ready-to-use homemade vanilla extract.

Simple meant only two gifts of “want” were wrapped under the tree for the kids along with a couple of necessities like new PJ’s, a couple of favorite character shirts, and a special sweet treat.

The kids loved the simplicity.

The biggest hit–wrapping paper and bags!

Simple meant spending time with loved ones. Talking, laughing, playing, and just being plain ol’ silly.

And isn’t that what Christmas is all about–simplicity.

The simplicity of a baby boy born in a simple stable. The simple act of love that changed the world. Simplicity which is so easily forgotten this time of year.

The simplicity which makes Christmas meaningful, special, and memorable.

  • I love this post Kristin. It’s such an important reminder to slow down and focus, especially when the world around us tells us to keep busy and move faster. Thank you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!

  • Simplicity looks wonderful, we did a lot of these things but still had some commercial presents but hopefully next year. I’ve started knitting so everyone can expect lots of hand knitted presents for Christmas next year! Love the new website design!

    • Thank you, I’m really liking the new feel too! It was really nice to keep Christmas simple this year. We will definitely being doing Christmas the simple way in the future. I would love to learn to knit–an area I am very challenged!
