DIY Homemade Sidewalk Chalk: A super simple tutorial for making your own sidewalk chalk!

Contributor post written by Kimberly from Turning It Home

Growing up, every Valentine’s Day I would come home from school to find flowers,  some chocolate-y sweets, and a card signed by my father. The chocolates never lasted very long but the appreciation I had for the valentine did.

I was older than my children then, but I still love the thought of giving my own kids little valentines. Since my two-year old may not appreciate a well thought out greeting card, these heart shaped chalks will make a great alternative.

I’ve always been a little intimated to make chalk but it turned out to be a pretty straightforward process. Using silicone molds eliminates all major prep work and makes clean up a breeze.

I found this silicone ice cube tray at IKEA for $1, but you can find similar silicone molds online or in the baking section at craft stores. Also, silicone molds come in many different shapes, leaving the possibility for fun-shaped homemade chalk nearly limitless.
