The beauty of making homemade products is found in the simplicity of the ingredients!
The simplest food ingredients usually create the most delicious meals. The same concept proves true when it comes to making homemade products. That’s why I often use the words five ingredients or easy to describe recipes posted on Live Simply. It’s not a Pinterest tactic; rather, a way to showcase how something that seems so complicated (like cooking a homemade dinner or making hand soap) is incredibly easy to take responsibility for at home.
Today’s DIY beauty product is super easy to make. So easy you’ll only need three ingredients, and zero fancy tools!
Before I share the recipe, let’s take a look at the simple ingredient list:
Aloe Vera Gel: Aloe vera is a common ingredient used to treat sunburns due to its soothing and antioxidant properties. Since we know aloe is great for the skin, why not add it to a daily face cleanser? If you’re interested in some of the benefits of aloe vera, this article from Mind Body Green is very insightful.
Raw Honey: Raw honey is simply honey that hasn’t been pasteurized. Due to the lack of pasteurization (heating), raw honey is naturally rich in antibacterial and probiotic properties. Honey is also gentle on sensitive skin, but tough enough to remove dirt and other impurities. If you can’t find raw honey in your area (although many stores/markets now sell raw honey, so take a look before dismissing this ingredient), pasteurized honey may be used.
Nourishing Oil: Finally, what would a good face cleanser be without a nourishing oil? Since oil dissolves oil, it’s only natural to add a nourishing oil to a homemade facial cleanser.
Homemade Honey and Aloe Facial Cleanser
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 TB extra virgin olive oil or jojoba, or sweet almond oil (optional)
Special Equipment:
- mason jar or storage container of choice
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients. That's it!
- This cleanser can be stored in a sealed jar (I use a Mason jar) or a soap dispenser. Either method works, it's completely up to you. If you're using a jar, I recommend using a spoon to scoop the cleanser into your hand to avoid introducing bacteria to the cleanser. Store the cleanser at room temperature for a couple of months. If you're using fresh aloe, store the cleanser in the fridge since the aloe may spoil quickly. I use a nourishing oil in this recipe, but you can still make a great cleanser without it (hence the optional clause).
To Use:
- Shake the cleanser. Apply a small amount of cleanser to our hand, then massage the cleanser on your face. Allow the cleanser to sit for about a minute total, just to absorb the wonderful qualities of the ingredients. Using a damp wipe, gently remove the cleanser, rinsing the wipe as needed.

Hi…can I use aloe honey cleanser for face as well as body cleanser
Hey Mauli, Yes, you could.
What I love about homemade products like this is that you are sure of what you’re putting on your face. This is the reason why I always search for new homemade products like this. Thank you for this. Can’t wait to try it.
Enjoy!
i made this last night and used it for the first time this morning! it made my skin super soft and smooth, hopefully it help clear up my skin a bit.
Yay, Heather! So glad you’re enjoying it so far.
Hi, I am searching for homemade recipes for making skin care products. I want to first make facial cleanser because they’re my #1 favorite to keep your face clean, and fresh. I have a question to ask. Is this cleanser recipe good for sensitive skin and eczema?
Everyone’s skin is so different and eczema can have many root causes. Getting rid of many of the ingredients in conventional face cleansers that strip the skin could definitely help. So this recipe is worth a try in my opinion. I don’t think it could hurt

Love this face cleanser. It works so well for me.
Love this page!
Hi
Just some quick questions:
Do I need to disinfect the container for the cleanser?
If using raw aloe gel how long will the mixture remain fresh in the fridge?
Finally- if I cant get raw honey what is the next best type of honey? e.g manuka etc
Thank you for your great recipe.
Hi Alicja,
About a week it should last. Manuka honey would work.

Hi Kristin,
Your blog is amazing!!! Well done! I have just found it and now i want to try all them XD
Regarding this honey cleanser, when you say 1/4 cup, which volume are you talking about exactly: or maybe that ratio is not very important?
thanks in advance
Hi Ale, Glad you love the blog! The volume would be 2oz, but its not that important. Thanks for commenting!
i am new to your page, and I absolutely love it!. can you please share your daily skin care routine, from day to night. thanks
Hi Misty! Thank you so much, that means a lot. Here is a post I’ve done about my skincare routine. Let me know if this helps!

Where can i find the aloe you use and the jojoba oil? I have aloe grown in my backyard, but based on a comment I read….it has no preservative, correct?
I let my sister do my makeup today and had on much more than I normally wear. I got home and realized soap and water just wasn’t gonna cut it, so I hit up google and came across your super easy and quick to make cleanser and I LOVE IT!! It took off every bit of makeup (including heavy eye makeup) with no stinging or redness afterward. I will definitely continue to use this cleanser and look forward to trying out some of the other recipes you have! Thank you!!!
That’s awesome, Jessica! So glad you loved it. Thank you for coming back to rate and share. That means so much!
what do you think about rice bran oil??or olive oil is a better option??
I personally would choose a really good quality olive oil.
Which oil do u recommend for dry and sensitive skin and to also help pimples go away?
Hey Carmen, Personally, I would go with jojoba oil.
Can i use coconut oil if i don’t have other oils available?
Hey Nikhil, You can, but coconut can cause some people to break out, and it will solidify when cold so that may be an issue.
Hi I am goin to use a freshly squeeze aloe Vera since I have my own plant..how long it will last ? Combining, raw honey and freshly squeeze aloe Vera and olive oil?
I need to know if it would help my face with the red on it just on certain spots
Hey Rebecca, I don’t know if it will help since I don’t know what is causing the redness, but it certainly can’t hurt. I would give it a try.
Is your Honey & Aloe face cleanser suppose to thin and a little runny ?? I measured half & half.
Thanks,
Judy
Hey Judy, Yes, it will be pretty thin. Did you use aloe juice or aloe vera gel?
Hey, I just made and used this recipe on my face, but instead of jojoba oil, I used a bottle of (seemingly) essential oils. I’m don’t remember all that was in there, but there was frankincense, and there was also coconut oil. I just read the comment on how potent essential oils are, and I didn’t know. My face is kind of burning, probably from the potent essential oils I just rubbed on there! Is there any way to save the cleanser I made or should I just restart?
Hey Kenlie, Essential oils are VERY different than jojoba oil. You only need a couple of drops of an essential oil in something like this–they must be diluted versus something like jojoba can be used liberally without any dilution. I don’t think there’s a way to fix the face wash at this point. You’ll need to start over for safety reasons.
Hi,
What about an oil for dry skin? I have hypothyroidism, which makes my skin very dry. What oil would work best for it?
Crystal
Hey Kristin! I am new to your blog and have loved reading it. I have made several recipes so far for the face and am looking forward to making some real food recipes! I made this face wash, but I ended up breaking out in a rash because of the aloe Vera. Thats never happened before but I’m about to be 44 and my body is changing all the time lol. Do you have any idea what I could substitute the aloe for? I’m new to DIY and not sure what to use. thank you so much for all the heart & time you put into this blog. Blessings! ♡
Hey Sherri, Welcome to Live Simply! I would just use honey as a cleanser. Honey is a fabulous cleanser.
I just discovered this recipe the other day and made some right away. I like how it leaves your face feeling clean without drying your skin out too much! I have a few questions, though. Will this help with blackheads? I know that honey has antibacterial/antioxidant properties, so that may be how it helps keep your skin clean. Should this also help with combination skin? Does this leave a film?
Hey Briana, Every face is different, but from my experience this cleanser cleans the face (from sensitive skin to combination skin) very well. I’m not sure about blackheads (as there are many factors to clear skin, including gut health, etc.) but it should help.
